Using Muse Inside WhatsApp: Setup, What Works and Limits

You can use Muse inside WhatsApp by linking your Muse agent during setup, after which it shows up as a chat you message like any other contact. It has the same memory, connectors, VM and approvals as the Muse app, so you can hand it errands from WhatsApp and close the chat while it works. It's available to US users 18 and older, and it draws on the same free or paid Muse allowance.

What Muse in WhatsApp is

Meta built Muse around messaging. Its launch post says talking to Muse "works just like messaging another person, in the Muse app or directly in WhatsApp."

WhatsApp is a window onto the same agent, not a second copy. The agent still runs in its Muse Secure VM in the cloud. WhatsApp is where you send it instructions and where it reports back. Anything you connect in the Muse app (Gmail, Calendar, Plaid, Stripe Link) is available when you message it in WhatsApp.

The appeal is simple: you don't have to remember to open another app. Mika Reyes, in her setup guide, calls WhatsApp the daily-use method: you "message it like a contact" and "do not have to keep the Muse app open."

How to set up Muse in WhatsApp

1. Create your Muse account first. Install the Muse app on iOS or Android, or sign in at muse.ai. See how to get started with Muse.
2. Connect your Meta apps. During onboarding, Muse offers to link Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads. Facebook, Instagram and Threads connect automatically if they share your Accounts Center (Meta help).
3. Enable WhatsApp messaging. Turn on the option to chat with your agent in WhatsApp. Your agent then appears as a conversation.
4. Optionally import memory. Meta lets you send a prompt in WhatsApp (or Instagram, Facebook, Threads) so Muse can pick up what those apps already know about you.

Meta hasn't published a separate WhatsApp help article with screenshots, and menu labels may shift during limited testing.

What you can do with Muse from WhatsApp

Anything you'd ask in the app. The catalog is a good menu of real tasks people have handed Muse, and all of them start with a message:

• Chase money. "Go through my receipts from the last six months and find subscriptions I've forgotten." One user found $1,200 a year this way.
• Negotiate. "Accept any AT&T fiber offer under $70 a month." That instruction got one user down to $40.
• Claim compensation. A delayed-flight request turned into a $250 credit in five minutes.
• Make calls. Muse can phone businesses, including five Tesla stores at once.
• Book things. Dinners, tickets and flights through connectors like Duffel and Ticketmaster.
• Run recurring jobs. A daily AI-news podcast or a price watch keeps going between messages.

Short, specific messages with a clear limit work best. "Book something" is vague; "book a table for two near me Friday at 7, under $150 total, ask me before paying" gives Muse what it needs.

How approvals work in a chat

Muse asks before sensitive actions like sending an email or making a purchase, and it comes back "when something changes or when it needs approval," per Meta. Behind that prompt is Sentinel, the separate permission service that gates connector actions and network egress.

For purchases, Stripe says you approve the transaction total in the chat interface, and Muse never sees your card details. At merchants that don't take Link, it gets a single-use virtual card scoped to that purchase (Stripe). Read how Muse pays for things before you connect a wallet.

A tip that applies doubly in WhatsApp: read the approval text before you tap approve. Chats scroll fast, and the details (merchant, amount, recipient) are what you're actually approving.

Privacy: what sharing WhatsApp with Muse means

WhatsApp chats between people are end-to-end encrypted. Messages you send to Muse are instructions to an agent running in Meta's cloud, so the agent has to read them. Meta says Muse doesn't share conversations or VM data with its ad systems and you can opt out of training (Meta). A Confidential VM mode that would lock Meta out of your VM is planned but not live.

Separately, if you connect WhatsApp as a data source, Muse can see more than the chat you have with it. Malwarebytes lists WhatsApp among the services Muse can reach, and a teardown of the Muse apps documents shipped WhatsApp tools. Decide whether you want Muse reading your other conversations, and prefer read-only access where it's offered.

Muse in Instagram DMs, Messenger and Telegram

WhatsApp is the only messaging app Meta has launched Muse in as a primary chat surface. Users have gone further: one runs a Muse persona called Nova inside Instagram DMs that can be summoned in a chat, and another uses the Instagram connector to screen unread DMs without marking them read.

TestingCatalog found interface traces pointing to Messenger and Telegram support. That comes from code discovery, not an announcement, and no timing is confirmed. Meta did announce at Connect that Muse will get its own email address, so you can CC or forward threads to it.

Limits to know

• US only, 18+. Muse and its subscriptions are in limited testing.
• Group chats aren't documented. Meta's materials describe one-to-one messaging with your agent.
• Verification codes can stall tasks. When a site texts you a code, Muse may need you. In one Xfinity call, it patched the user in to handle it.
• Amazon is off the table. Amazon blocked Muse purchases from September 20.
