The Muse launch timeline: Spark, Glimmer, Muse, Mac and connectors, with dates

Meta announced Muse Spark on April 8, 2026, opened the Meta Model API in July, shipped Muse Code in August and released the open-weight Muse Glimmer on August 10. The Muse personal agent launched in the US on September 8, reached the Mac on September 17–18, opened connectors to developers on September 18, and got voice, an email address and Mac computer use at Meta Connect on September 23.

Two dates are disputed in coverage. 9to5Mac dates Muse for Mac to September 17 and TechCrunch covered it September 18. Several outlets put the connector platform opening on September 18 rather than September 19.

April: Muse Spark

Muse Spark was the first model in Meta Superintelligence Labs' Muse series. Wikipedia describes it as the replacement for Llama behind Meta's chatbots. API access started as a private preview for select partners, so early builder work was limited. Two early posts in the catalog date from that window: Deedy's visual grounding tests and Evergreen Capital's hands-on comparison.

July: the Meta Model API opens

Muse Spark 1.1 came with the Meta Model API in public preview. The API is drop-in compatible with the OpenAI and Anthropic SDKs, which is why adapters appeared quickly: the pi extension for Spark 1.1, and windows-cua, a Win32 port of Meta's macOS computer-use agent driving Spark 1.1.

August: Muse Code, Spark 1.2 and Glimmer

On August 5, Spark 1.2 shipped alongside Muse Code, a terminal coding agent with subagents in isolated git worktrees and replayable event logs. Five days later, Glimmer arrived: a dense ~29.6B-parameter model under Apache 2.0, distilled from Spark, with day-0 support in Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp, MLX, vLLM and SGLang.

August 10 is the busiest filing date in the whole catalog, with 24 entries, all about Glimmer. Builds from that day include the Claude Code on local Glimmer setup and Simon Willison's first look.

September 2: Muse Spark 1.3

Spark 1.3 added a max reasoning mode, and Meta claimed about 20% fewer tool calls and 25% fewer tokens than 1.2. It landed on Vercel AI Gateway on launch day (Vercel), plus Cursor and OpenRouter. Independent tests followed within days; see Muse Spark benchmarks.

September 8: the Muse personal agent

The consumer agent, powered by Spark 1.3, launched on iOS, Android, the web and WhatsApp. Launch connectors were Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Outlook, Plaid, Stripe Link, Shopify Catalog, OpenTable, Ticketmaster, Function Health, HealthEx, Withings, Peloton, Duffel and Tailscale (PostFast's sourced list). By September 21 it had passed 2.5M downloads, per CNBC.

September 16–18: calling, Mac and the connector platform

Phone calling arrived on September 16, the same day Instinct announced its own. Muse for Mac followed with per-app Off / Read only / Read and interact controls for iMessage, Notes, Reminders, Mail and Calendar. Then Zuckerberg opened connectors to developers at muse.ai/platform, with a describe, review and list process. Meta received more than 1,500 applications in under a week.

September 20–22: the commerce fight

Amazon blocked Muse purchases from September 20. Within two days, Shop Pay, PayPal, Expedia and Instacart announced partnerships. Zuckerberg has said Meta will make money "by taking a small fee from transactions" (TechCrunch), which explains the pace.

September 23: Meta Connect 2026

Connect added voice mode, the Muse Realtime Avatar, an email address for the agent, Mac computer use on "any app on your Mac", glasses integration, and Muse Charm, a pocket device with a real-time voice model. It also announced connectors for Walmart, Best Buy, Sephora, Wayfair, Notion, Granola, GitHub, Box and others.
