How to Use Muse in India: What Works Today and What Doesn't

You can't officially use the Muse personal agent in India yet. It launched on September 8, 2026 for adults in the US, and Meta has not given India a date. What you can use from India today is most of the rest of the Muse family: Muse Code and the Meta Model API (Meta opened both to developers worldwide), Muse Spark through OpenRouter, and Muse Glimmer, an open-weights model you can run on your own GPU or a free Kaggle notebook.

This guide covers each route, what it costs, and the one people keep asking about: using a US VPN to sign up for the agent anyway.

Is Muse available in India?

Not the agent. Meta's launch post limits the first rollout to the US, and Meta's subscription help page says you must "be located in a country where Muse is available" and that "Muse and Muse subscriptions are in limited testing and aren't available in all locations yet." MediaNama reported on launch day that India was left out of the rollout and that Meta had made no announcement about Indian timing.

Even Meta's Indian product pages say so. The India page for Muse Charm, the pocket device announced at Connect, shows "Not yet available in your region."

Two things cause confusion:

• Meta AI is in India, Muse is not. Meta AI, the chat assistant inside WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger, has been available in India since 2024. It answers questions and makes images. It does not run errands, keep a private VM or buy things for you. Muse does.
• Meta One is in India, and it mentions Muse. Meta's new Meta One bundles launched in India on September 16 at ₹549 a month for Core and ₹1,950 for Premium. They include extra image and video generation "using Muse models". That is the models behind Meta AI's media tools, not the personal agent. Don't buy Meta One expecting Muse errands.

When will Muse launch in India?

Nobody outside Meta knows. Alexandr Wang, Meta's chief AI officer, answered a question about Canada on X with "Very soon!", and a September 26 report from the Seoul Economic Daily says Muse is now live in Canada with "no timetable for South Korea or other markets." India has had no comparable statement.

Some reasons India is harder than it looks, based on how the agent works:

• The connectors are American. At launch Muse pays through Stripe Link, reads bank data through Plaid's 12,000+ US institutions, and shops through Instacart, Walmart, Best Buy and OpenTable. None of that does UPI, RuPay, Swiggy, Zepto or IRCTC. An Indian launch needs Indian partners first.
• Agent payments may need new rules. MediaNama notes that MeitY has proposed mandatory human-in-the-loop steps for agentic AI payments. Muse already asks before it buys things, but a formal rule could change how checkout works.
• Scale. India is Meta AI's biggest market because of WhatsApp. Every Muse user gets a dedicated Secure VM, and a WhatsApp-sized launch in India would need a lot of them.

None of these is a Meta statement. They are the practical gaps you would hit if Muse switched on in India tomorrow.

Muse Code and the Meta Model API

When Meta shipped Muse Spark 1.2, it said it was "expanding global access to our public preview, so developers around the world can start building with Muse Spark in Muse Code and Meta Model API." That is the most direct way to use Meta's best model from India.

To get started:

1. Install Muse Code: curl -fsSL https://dev.meta.ai/install.sh | sh on macOS or Linux, or irm https://dev.meta.ai/install.ps1 | iex in Windows PowerShell.
2. Run it and sign in through the browser, or paste an API key from dev.meta.ai.
3. For API work, point any OpenAI-compatible SDK at https://api.meta.ai/v1 with your key.

Muse Code plans cost $5 (Everyday), $15 (High) and $50 (Power) a month. The API's standard tier costs $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output, and Meta says those prompts are not used for training. The much cheaper contributor tier, where Meta may train on your data, is marked "available in select countries" and Meta doesn't list which. Check at signup rather than assuming it works for you.

Billing is in US dollars. Whether a particular Indian card goes through depends on your bank's international and recurring-payment settings, so enable those before you blame Meta.

Community builds that are handy from India:

• Muse Code for Arch Linux and Termux packages the CLI for Android phones through Termux, plus older CPUs without AVX2.
• The Meta Model API cookbook has Meta's own recipes for agents and coding tools.
• Helicon and Muse Desktop put a GUI on Muse Code if you'd rather not live in a terminal.

Muse Spark through OpenRouter

If you already use OpenRouter, Muse Spark is one model name away. OpenRouter added Muse Spark 1.3 on launch day, and it also lists 1.2 and the contributor versions. It is useful when you want one bill for several model providers, or when a Meta signup hits a snag.

Muse Glimmer, the no-account option

Muse Glimmer 30B is Apache 2.0 open weights, distilled from Muse Spark. No Meta account, no region check, no subscription. You download it from Hugging Face and run it through Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp, MLX or vLLM. Meta's model card lists 100+ languages. It doesn't break out Hindi or regional-language quality, so test yours before you build on it.

Hardware is the catch. The 4-bit build is about 17GB, aimed at 24–32GB machines. Builders have pushed it lower and cheaper:

• Muse Glimmer 30B on a 12GB laptop GPU, with a 3-bit quant at 100K context and ~30 tokens a second, as reported by the author.
• Muse Glimmer with 130k context on free Kaggle T4s, a $0 setup on Kaggle's free dual-T4 notebooks. There's also a full Kaggle serving stack that exposes it as an OpenAI-compatible endpoint.

Glimmer is a model, not the agent. It won't book your train ticket. It will power an agent you build or install, like Hermes Agent or OpenCode.

Can I use a VPN to get Muse in India?

People do, and guides like Comparitech's walk through it: a paid VPN set to a US server, muse.ai in a browser rather than the phone app (to avoid GPS location), and a fresh email not tied to an existing Meta account. Free VPNs mostly fail.

We don't recommend it, for four reasons:

1. Meta says it risks your account. Replying to a user in Malaysia, Meta's own @meta.ai account on Threads wrote that "you might get past the signup with a US VPN, but you'd be bypassing the geo restriction, risking your account." If you connect Instagram or WhatsApp through Accounts Center, that is the account at risk.
2. The check isn't just your IP. Toolnavs reports that Muse looks at account region and app store country too, so a VPN alone often gets you to the sign-in screen and no further.
3. Most of what makes Muse useful won't work anyway. The connectors that do the errands are for US banks, US stores and US payment rails. A VPN doesn't give you a US card, a US address or a Plaid-supported bank. You'd get a chatbot with a VM and not much to do with it.
4. Your data leaves India under a US-only product. You would be handing email, calendar and payment access to a service that doesn't claim to support your country, through a VPN you also have to trust.

Also skip anything sold as "US Muse accounts" or referral-code farms promising billions of free tokens. Meta's Threads reply called the latter "not an official Meta offer."

What Indian builders are already doing

The best move from India right now may be building for Muse rather than using it. The connector platform lets anyone describe and submit a connector, and custom connectors can be built from any API. When Muse does reach India, services with a connector ready will be the ones it can use on day one.

If you build something from India, with Glimmer, Muse Code or a connector, submit it. The catalog has almost nothing from outside the US so far, which says more about the launch region than about who is building.
